to.to went for dental scaling yesterday. Not that he has got bad breath hor but i juz thought he should go for dental scaling since he doesn't like us to brush his teeth all these years. & being 6years old liao, it's better to do a dental check up now rather than wait till 1day there are some infection attack then seek remedy. After vet's checking, to.to only has very little dental tartar adhered to the surface of his teeth & yellowish staining at his back teeth.
To perform dental scaling, the dog needs to be sedated. Naturally I am concerned when anesthesia is required since doctor/vet is obliged to inform you of the risk involved. So the lady vet quoted me some risks like... the heart may just shut down, his blood pressure may drop, he could have allergy with the anesthesia... blah blah blah. To make me feel better, the vet suggested to have blood test done prior to the dental scaling to ensure that to.to's health is fine. With a heavy heart, i left to.to (barking) in their care.
i tell u, the feeling is really bad. Cause i can hear him barking in that room that he was left in while i walked out of the vet centre. It reminded me of 3yrs back when to.to had castration performed on him. He was in pain & weak & shivering when i picked him up & i felt soooooo guilty for putting him through the pain. So throughout the whole day, i just kept checking hp waiting for their call to pick up to.to & in my mind worrying about him (even though this is just a small small case to the vet).
Finally, picked him up in the evening & the moment i walked into the vet, a very super duper pitiful dog whining sound "greeted" me. Aiyo... my heart just sank when heard that. But turned out its not to.to lah! It's another schnauzer making that sound. So to.to is back home with me now in 1 whole piece but he is not as lively as before (he dosen't bark, he doesn't play, he doesn't beg for food & he doesn't walk around much but juz laze around whole day). I wonder is it the effect of the anesthesia or the trauma of being left alone there with howling dogs around or the scaling is causing pain??? But to.to's teeth are really pearl white now (sorry no pics to show coz he is still not willing to open his mouth wide) & the blood test shows everything is doing fine so no worries for the time being. Btw, all these set me back $189.
